Enhanced Day Program Inc.
Our Story
Enhanced Day Program Inc. was established in the Greater Toronto Area in 2012 by Akhia and Dan Hughes. With over 15 years working with youth and adults with special needs, brain injury and emotional instability, Dan is not only experienced, but driven to improve the lives of each person and to be a resource to families during challenging times. Akhia has over 12 years experience in Human Resources Management and Social Services in community organizations, with a passion for employee development, improving work and personal lives.

The Day Program was created to address the growing need for community participation and family support for caregivers caring for adult children at the same time dealing with concerns of aging and inability to manage behavioural challenges at home or school. Often too many times individuals who exhibit challenging behaviours or needs are often either turned away from regular day programs or added to an endless wait lists. Family members (caregivers) who provide direct care were often faced with being isolated from community due to the increasing care needs of their adult child. We believe that everyone, including the family unit should feel free from judgement and have the opportunity to live a purpose-filled life.
We committed ourselves to be an intervention service that could make a difference by providing youth and adults with a smooth transition to adult day programming services. Building on the vision of an individual & family-cantered support system where safety and inclusivity would be important, Enhanced Day Program Inc. was established.
As our day program expanded, we out grew the location in Toronto in 2013. We started our search for the ideal space where we could provide a variety of services from one location, the Center. Within 3 months we acquired the Pickering location on Brock Road, south of Hwy 401 and started construction immediately. The Enhanced Center welcomes individuals from all over the GTA and surrounding communities with the goal of enriching the lives of the total family unit. The facility is over 3,500 square feet, designed with a "home away from home" feel with all the security features needed to keep participants safe.
