Adult Day Program Worker

​

Position: Program Instructor/ Support Worker (p/t to f/t)

Hours: 8:00am to 3:30pm: 20 to 37.5 hours per week

Location: Pickering, ON

Starting Date: Immediately

Enhanced Center is a fast-growing organization that provides direct support services to youth and adults with various developmental challenges. Our day program works with people with an intellectual, developmental and cognitive disability.

We focus on providing participants with the opportunity to be engaged socially throughout the day with activities focused on life skills, special interests, sports, group and 1-1 activities. We foster a healthy environment where we encourage exercise and nutrition.

Enhanced Day Program Inc. is looking for an enthusiastic and self-aware Support Worker with a positive attitude join our team. If you have passion for facilitating recreational, social and skill enhancing programs for individuals with special needs and want to be part of our multi-disciplinary team we encourage you to connect with us! Staff must feel comfortable providing personal care support as well as plan and lead program activities.

Individuals working in this field will gain a deep sense of satisfaction and personal rewards from providing direct services, a safe environment and social participation to a vulnerable population. You will receive a comprehensive orientation and training to support your role. Leadership skills are an asset, as our clients look to staff for safety and security.

Our program runs from 8AM to 3:30PM from Monday to Friday. The successful candidate must be available 2-3 days a week during the day for 13 to 20 hours per week to start, with opportunity for increased hours. All shifts are scheduled and announced in advance.

 

Education and Experience

Degree/ Diploma in Social Work, Developmental Service Worker, Social Service Worker, Therapeutic Recreation or relevant field of study. Consideration will be given to those with a combined experience of 1-2 years in field of disabilities and or mental health. Candidates must have a Class G Driver's License.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Class G driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Valid Standard or Emergency First Aid/CPR certification

  • Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Persons Sector Screening (within 6 months)

  • Sound disability experience, knowledge and/or training relevant to the position

  • Personable and genuinely interested in working with this population

 

Assets

  • ASD Background and experience working with difficult behaviours an asset

  • Sense of humor is an asset

  • Aptitude to learn quickly and to work independently

  • Excellent time management and leadership skills

  • Positive Attitude with exceptional team work skills

  • Behaviour Management & Crisis Intervention Training i.e. CPI, TCI, UMAB or other (preferred asset)

  • Ability to problem solve and take action in a fast-paced environment

 

Duties 

  • Direct support of individuals, maintaining and adapting to an individualized plan.

  • Responsible for safely transporting clients to and from the day program using the company vehicle. Abiding by the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Transportation.

  • Using creativity to assist in the planning and delivery of program activities.

  • Promote and provide an excellent personal standard of care.

  • Using a variety of techniques to promote and maximize participation and inclusion.

  • Assisting team with identifying challenging behaviours, intervention and support plans.

  • Maintaining cleanliness and managing infection control.

  • Use time management and leadership skills to ensure structure and routines consistent.

  • Encourage and role model positive, socially appropriate behaviour; and effectively set boundaries and manage challenging behaviour.

  • Team orientated skills, working within an interdependent team environment.

  • To be aware and adhere to safe working conditions and practices. Participate in Health and Safety Training. Participate in monthly team meetings.

  • Available to work 2-3 weekdays shifts, flexibility for increased shifts.
